Californian Poppies

When the Californian poppies
Paint the garden with their flames
They can whirl me into heaven
With one glance
They remind me that you’re with me
In these balmy days of change
And how quickly all my senses
Are entranced
They are singing that you love me
And I’m captivated by their
Their dance
As I lean into their beauty
And they wrap me in their tangerine arms
I observe with sighs of sorrow
Californian poppies have few leaves
Here today and gone tomorrow
Like the things the world believes
Yet each one of them assures me
With their lemons and their greens
That I bathe in realms of glory
Where everything is calm and serene
They are singing that you love me
As my eyes are drawn into
Their dance
As I lean into their beauty
And they wrap me in their tangerine arms
