Granny, why is the sky blue?

Benjamin bounced up and down in the back of the car. He and his granny were waiting outside his big brother’s school for him to come out. He talked nonstop. Granny this, granny that. On and on he went.

Then he stood very still. “Granny?” he said. Granny knew it was important because he stopped jumping. “Why is the sky blue? He queried. “Because it is,” Granny replied, not really sure what this was leading to. She knew him well enough to know this was leading somewhere. “But granny, why is the sky blue?” he said again, but a little more crossly. Like all good granny’s she thought for a moment, turned it around on him. “Well, Benjamin Bunny, why do you think the sky is blue?”

He stopped, sat on the back seat of the car and thought. Then he jumped up,

“I know “, he exclaimed “, It’s God’s favourite colour.” Granny laughed, “Of course, you are always right.” She smiled; children have the craziest ideas.

He continued, “The grass is green, cows are black and white, and the sun is yellow. When God made the world, He used every colour in His paintbox, because He knew it would make us happy.” Granny turned round and looked at his delighted face. He solved the mystery. She, however, had a lot of thinking to do. “I guess I'd better ask him.” She spoke. “Good idea.” Benjamin nodded.

The car door flew open, and big brother arrived. But that was not the end of the conversation. Later that night, Granny asked, “Why did you paint the sky blue, God?” God smiled, and so began a very interesting conversation.
