The Dawn of Israel

We gather here
To pray as one
For we believe
The time has come
For the world to see
Through Yahweh’s eyes
So Israel
Is recognised
God’s promises
To his dear land
They cost him
All he ever had
For every vow
He ever made
Was signed in blood
The price was paid
Today we see.
The curtain torn
God’s holy people.
Being reborn
As nations come
To drink
From Jacob’s wells
We gaze upon
The dawn of Israel
We all recall
The deep distress
Of Hagar in
Her wilderness
Whose baby, dying
In the sun
Onto his wailing
Mother, clung
When brothers both
Know their true worth
Each honouring
The other’s birth
How beautiful
For all the earth
For each then puts
The other first
Is it so hard
Is it too late
For two religions
Two great faiths
To share together
Both estates
And reconcile
The love and hate
And as we gaze
With unblurred eyes
We see the pure
And spotless Bride
She holds the tears
The nation cried
With arms of love
Held open wide
Though roots of conflict
Seldom sleep
Christ’s blood can turn
The bittersweet
There is no place
However deep
That true forgiveness
Cannot reach
Ref 2
As earth and heaven
Sweetly kiss
And all creation
Witnesses
More floods of grace
Than mortal lips can tell
We gaze upon
The dawn of Israel
And so today
Oh El Shaddai
To you we pray
And prophesy
Come winds of God
All day and night
Breathe on these bones
Raise them to life
How wonderful
How grand it is
To pray in unknown
Languages
For peace to flow
Out from the Bride
Who stills the storm
And moves the tide
