"Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10)
But in this world, we find it so hard to be still that we have lost the gift of being still. We are so consumed with doing that we forget to be still, and in all the activity and responsibility we have in life, we fail to make room for God.
But "Be still" is a command of God. He knows our frailties and weaknesses and that we are pulled in so many directions that he must issue a command.
Can you hear that command above all the activity and noise of life? Can you hear God shouting, "Be Still?"
It takes a moment to be obedient, a second to step aside, and a determined decision to stop everything, put it all down, stop, and be still.
Selah
But the rewards are so sweet. Listen to the next verse; "The Lord Almighty is with us; come the God of Jacob is our fortress".
Doesn't that inspire you with hope and fill you with joy that God is with us if only we will be still and recognise that? Know that he is there and wants to make his dwelling place amongst us.
However busy you are, whatever demands are put on you, take a moment to be still and allow God to make himself known to you. Allow the knowledge that he is your strong Tower, your fortress, and he welcomes you into his strong arms of love.
Be still and know that I am God, says the Lord.
