Don’t cry for me

‘Don’t cry for me’ - everytime I read the crucifixion story I stop at these words he called out - quite why he thus spoke I don’t understand but the thoughts I do have I can put down in rhyme: Neil Gracie

“Don’t cry for me, “

 Such words are alarming

To all who have come to know

Christ as their darling

But these very words

Are the words I remember

Expressed in such passion

So earnest, so tender

When Jesus our King

Our souls’ faithful brother

Was dragging his cross

To the dreaded Golgotha

Staggering under

The weight of the structure

So violent a time

So distressing a juncture

“Don’t weep for me, “

The echo resounded

Consuming the oceans

Reshaping the mountains

The background of this

Defies our accounting

But we glean what we can

From the pages of scripture

We gaze in our worship

At the one we adore

In love, we try hard

To imagine the picture

On the way to the cross,

Distraught tears were flowing

To obtain human justice

Was way beyond useless

Disillusioned, confused

Bewildered and broken

They wept out aloud

The situation looked hopeless

How shocking it was then

How souls must have wondered

When He who so loved them

Emotionally uttered

To all of the crowd

In words softly spoken

“Don’t sob for me

I know where I’m going …

My father is with me

My friend and my anchor

The bride who awaits

Is the joy I give thanks for

I’m prepared for the pain

But the world can be sure

I will see you again

For I’m your mentor

“Don’t cry for me, “

But for all the mothers

Who labour for those

To come in the future

Whose pain is for all

The souls not yet born

Who carry the groaning

Of all of creation

For all of the universe

So crushed from the fall

To be finally set free

From its endless frustration

I’m only here

For my Father who reigns

Weep instead

For the souls of my accusers

Save all your long hours

Of deep intercession

For those who are drunk

In their hateful stupor

I’m leading the way

For those called to be winners

To set free from shame

The pain-driven sinners

I stand here to conquer

And bring in my kingdom

By means of my love for

My beautiful children

So don’t weep for me

Control the emotions

Already the world

Is hurting and broken

For soon every battle

And war will be finished

It’s all there in the words

The prophets have spoken

Don’t wail for me

But consider this moment

Stand still and breathe

Let your hearts be wide open

The sky will go black

The clocks will be frozen

As the veil is removed

From the eyes of the chosen

The reason I came

Was for me to inherit

The world that I made

And make streams in the desert

The world is stunned

At my birth in a manger

But my bride’s love songs

Are so much greater

Though we haven’t yet met

With her I’m acquainted

She can easily forget

She’s the woman I created

You’re heartbroken now

Beyond consolation

But don’t be downhearted

There’s joy in the waiting

Don’t weep for me

This age is now over

The war’s almost finished

Now starts a new chapter

The bride will emerge

In power and beauty

She is the church

I’m coming back for

The world will be healed

By the love I pour through her

She’ll be my child

I’ll be her tutor

We will be one

In celebration and fun

All tears wiped away

With joy and with humour

My blood will set free

Each beloved human being

From sin and its power

The cancerous tumour

Love will bring peace

And wars will all cease

So no longer heed

Fear’s terrifying rumours

Don’t weep for me

Be strong and believe

Make sure that my glory

Is what you make room for

Those who believe

Are born to be free

Don’t cry for me

But have faith for the future

Whatever your head

Had been hoping to see

Focus instead

On a world being set free. …

But whatever you do

To yourself be true

Don’t cry for me
