There they sat around the table -
All the twelve friends of Jesus,
These twelve apostles of His,
It was to be no ordinary supper.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all -
For sinners like you and me."
After supper, Jesus broke bread -
And said, 'This is my body broken for you.
Then he took the cup of wine -
And said, 'This is my blood shed for you'.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all -
For sinners, like you and me."
This night was no ordinary night -
As Jesus explained to his disciples.
Could crucifixion be his father's will -
For one among them will seal His fate.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all
For sinners - like you and me."
Judas, it was he who would betray -
In exchange for thirty pieces of silver.
Jesus knew and sent Judas on his way,
From such time, fate awaited Jesus.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all
For sinners - like you and me."
After supper Jesus walked with them -
Led them into the garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus asks - 'keep awake with me here'
But neither one stayed awake with him.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all
For sinners - like you and me."
Peace was shattered by guards' shouts -
A betrayer's, kiss sealed the fate of Jesus.
From Judas Iscariot it had been received,
Which therefore led to Jesus arrest.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all
For sinners - like you and me."
The disciples they had deserted Jesus -
In fear that they too, would be arrested.
Days after they'd be reunited once again.
"Love, service and betrayal
Our Lord encountered it all
For sinners - like you and me."
