The safest place (a Communion reflection)

Drinking now this cup of wine
Restoring my lost innocence
As our spirits intertwine
At you, my closest darling friend
I’m gazing through a misty lens
Because of my mistakes
Eating now this piece of bread
Healing where I need to mend
Remember the words you said
Though some are hard to comprehend
I snuggle under your soft wings of grace
Oh, such sweet union
With towering celebrity
Such deep infusion
Empowering solemnity
This is communion
This joyful melody
I will sing
Because with you
I know I’m in
The safest place
You endured such suffering
For all the world, including me
Made yourself an offer offering
To pay for my iniquity
Crimes defying numbering
Who can measure
Such amazing grace?
Oh, such sweet union
With towering celebrity
Such deep infusion
Empowering solemnity
This is communion
This joyful melody
I will sing
Because with you
I know I’m in
The safest place
