The way you look at me

Give me a diamond helmet
But a heart that really feels
Give me hands of softest velvet
But a will of tempered steel
If my heart is hard please melt it
Let nothing be concealed
I long to be authentic
Transparent, honest, real
‘Til my eyes can see the splendid
Miracle of every soul that breathes
And everyone’s befriended
As I pray for the fulfilment of their dreams
But above all else, my Daddy
Lover of my soul
Help me look at others
And all these glorious wonders
Of the world
The way you look at me
Free me from obsessions
And wash me in your light
So what’s okay in heaven
I release into my life
Give me the same lenses
Through which you always see
Dismantle the defences
That blur my destiny
‘Til my eyes behold the wonder
Of everything, the flowers, the colours, the trees
And when it rains and thunders
I speak your words of mercy as decrees
But above all else, my Daddy
Lover of my soul
Help me look at others
And all these glorious wonders
Of the world
The way you look at me
