A fishing lure designed to catch the biggest fish in the rivers, like salmon, trout, pike and perch. A skilful fisherman will cast this lure into the river's flow and retrieve it in a way that makes the prey think it is a free meal. Once the fish has been tempted, it will follow behind the lure and strike it, grasping it in its jaws. But once bitten, those fearsome-looking hooks will hold the fish with the barbs, preventing the hook from being thrown off. So, the result is that what the fish thought was a quick meal to fill its empty stomach has lured it to becoming a meal for the hungry fisherman instead.
And so, it is with us who live in this world. So many things attract, distract, and lure us away from the path set before us with the promise of a quick meal. In reality, these things will only ensnare us and ultimately lead us to death. The enemy of our souls loves to distract us, tempt us, and take us away from our true calling. The devil is busy trying to lure us away from our destiny and inheritance so he can hold us captive.
So, be careful what you are feeding on and what you are distracted with. Be careful not to be lured away by the temptation of a quick fix or something that isn’t real. And what is the real thing? The Bread of Life, feast on Him, the Lover of our Soul, Jesus Christ the Lord. He will satisfy your hunger, He will bring you purpose in life, He will give you His unconditional love, He will satisfy your soul with good things. So, go after Him and Him alone.
And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. John 6:35
